OPERATION VALENTINE - Vinyl

OPERATION VALENTINE - Vinyl (2021)

By Jens L. Thomsen

On the 11 th of April in 1940, British armed forces launched Operation Valentine. An occupation of the Faroe Islands. This was mostly considered to be a friendly occupation, and it had an immense impact on Faroese culture, politics and social life, in addition to encouraging new relationships, marriages and an emigration of nearly 200 Faroese Women to the United Kingdom after the war ended.

Det Ferösche Compagnie created a devised theatre piece to mark the 75th anniversary of the Operation Valentine occupation, with the intention of providing an artistic interpretation of the influence that this significant period has had on Faroese society. Producer and composer, Jens L. Thomsen (ORKA) has composed the music and created the sound design for the Operation Valentine theatre piece.

Jens L. Thomsen has reworked the material into a soundtrack album in order to mark this 75 th anniversary. The Operation Valentine soundtrack is an artistic investigation and imaginative glimpse of what it was like to be Faroese during the British occupation. It is not a period piece, but rather an account of the psychological impact that these years have had on Faroese culture, and how it shaped the people who experienced the occupation.

Release date: November 26 th , 2021.
